Gouves Waterpark Hotel Crete

The swimming facilities at this hotel are superb!! The splash park is huge, with numerous slides, tipping bucket etc. It’s a kids dream!!

Splash Park

A baby / toddler pool with smaller slides and a small snake flume which my little boy loved!

There is a separate pool with big flumes & slides for adults and older kids.

There are also numerous pools with no slides for relaxing.

Note: None of the pools are heated so bare this in mind when deciding which time of year to book. We visited beginning of May. My children are aged 2&4 and found the pools cold after a little while and I packed them wetsuits!

Ice creams are served from the espresso bar at the splash park between 12-6pm.

ROOM

We stayed in a family suite which was really comfortable and a good size for two adults and two children. We were in Room 7114. There were two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, the other with two twin beds. TVs in both rooms. A drench shower bathroom, and a lovely spacious balcony overlooking the pool. Coffee, tea, kettle are supplied and our mini bar was restocked every 2 days.

We did have to change rooms due to an issue but this was quickly sorted out by the reception & management team. All the staff work extremely hard. The daily housekeeping was of high standard and everywhere in the grounds was spotless. I couldn’t fault it for cleanliness at all.

Food & Drink

I cannot complain about the food in this hotel. Everything we had was of a decent standard. Lunch and dinner is served in the same restaurant. (Inside & outside seating) most mornings I choose fruit & yogurt and occasionally treated myself to the fresh omelettes as well as the pancakes! Both were delicious! Loved the fresh Greek salads at lunchtime too! Wine, beer and unbranded soft drinks, tea & coffee were all help yourself at machines in the restaurant. I personally didn’t like any of the wines. Drinks served in the main bar areas were okay. Some were branded. I stuck to Malibu and Coke. I noticed they had Smirnoff vodka. My o/h seemed to like the beer off tap!

Tip: If you prefer a quieter meal head outside the main restaurant and follow the tables down until you turn left around the corner.

There is also a street food option of burgers, fries, freshly cooked stone baked pizzas, garlic bread and pork or chicken gyros. You can take this to your sunbed if you don’t want to go to the restaurant for lunch. We found this really helpful when we didn’t want to miss the sun!

Chicken Gyros

A la Carte

We made use of two a la carte restaurants to break the week up. There is a Greek Meze and Asian restaurant. Both served yummy food.

Note: The drinks in these restaurants are not included in the all inclusive.

The a la carte Asian restaurant was delightful. Each dish we tried tasted amazing! Options such as Thai Curry, Peking Duck, Sushi, spring rolls, chicken teriyaki to name a few.

The Greek Meze was really lovely and it was fab to try some authentic Greek food. I visited on my birthday and the hotel supplied a birthday cake which was a really lovely touch.

Area

The area surrounding the hotel isnt very pleasing to the eye aesthetically. If you’re looking for places to walk out of an evening that are pristine, this isn’t your place. It’s a bit uncared for which is a shame as it’s a short walk to a lovely beach that you can watch the sunset/ sunrise. There are a handful of shops, bars and cafes on the seafront.

There is a bus stop to Heraklion (about 900m walk) from the hotel and costs a few euros per person each way. We hired a car from Caroline’s Travel Shop – just at the entrance of the hotel. It’s was €45 a day and included the kids seats.

I would recommend visiting Sisi – don’t miss the Taverna that is set on the hill side – it’s like a scene from Mamma Mia.

Agios Nicolaos was also beautiful and a lovely walk around. Lots of restaurants on the waters edge.
